Paul V. Halter is Executive Vice President and National Director of Field Operations for Patriot National, Inc., as well as a member of the Executive Committee. In this position, Mr. Halter is responsible for all underwriting, sales and marketing for Patriot National, Inc. through its regional branch office system. He is also Chief Executive Officer of Patriot Underwriters, Inc. Mr. Halter is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
Mr. Halter’s career experience began by starting his own independent insurance agency after college which he ultimately sold. He then joined the Crum & Forster Personal Insurance Company. After successful management responsibilities at Marsh & McLennan and Johnson and Higgins, Mr. Halter became President and CEO of Commerce Casualty Insurance Company, Ltd.; a workers’ compensation insurance captive he founded with independent insurance agency partners.
Mr. Halter joined our organization in 2002 where he served in various positions. In 2007, he left the company and worked in the alternative market and captive arena for several specialty insurance firms. In 2010, Mr. Halter re-joined Patriot as the Regional Vice President of the Southeast Region of Patriot managing all operations in 10 states from our Charlotte, NC offices.
John Rearer serves as President of Patriot Underwriters, Inc. Mr. Rearer has been in the insurance industry for 25 years, and prior to Patriot served as Vice President of Preferred Employers Group a Managing General Agency in Miami. Mr. Rearer joined Patriot Underwriters in 2005 as Vice President of Underwriting. In 2010 and most previously, Mr. Rearer became the Regional Vice President for the Western Region. In Mr. Rearer’s current role as President of Patriot Underwriters he will oversee the Managing General Agency, Program Administration, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).
Mr. Rearer is a graduate of Auburn University and Notre Dame (MBA).
Joe Babin serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Patriot Underwriters, Inc. Mr. Babin has more than 25 years of experience operating, growing, and transforming early-stage and expansion-phase companies. His engaging and tactical leadership skills drive success.
Skilled in strategic planning, new business development, business funding, and risk management, Mr. Babin has served in various organizational leadership roles prior to joining Patriot. He served as the CEO of Kinetix, where he lead the transformation of a small contractor to a large regional, full-scope mechanical, electrical, and plumbing company; he was EVP and principal of Electronic Payment Exchange (EPX), where he and his partners built an international credit card, debit card, and electronic check processing platform that he helped sell for substantial profit and then reacquire; and he served as president of NSM Insurance Group, where he directed the growth and expansion of a regional insurance operation into a full-service, $300 million multi-line managing general agent (MGA) brokerage.
A recognized civic leader, Mr. Babin has served on the boards of directors for Exceptional Care for Children (ECC), The Elwyn Institute, Grace Institutional Pharmacy, Blue Square Energy, and Electronic Payment Exchange (EPX).
Thomas McCarthy is the Regional Vice President of the Gulf Coast Region providing leadership for the operations in Florida based in Orlando, FL. He joined Patriot in 2010 and has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years.
Prior to joining Patriot, Mr. McCarthy managed various regions for carriers including Zenith and EBI Companies. His experience includes building startup operations in more than a dozen states on the East Coast, as well as managing business in more than 40 states.
Mr. McCarthy has degrees in Business Management, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, and an MBA with a focus in Finance.
Renee Iaia is Senior Vice President and Western Regional Vice President. Ms. Iaia oversees all operations, including marketing and underwriting responsibilities for California and is based at Patriot’s underwriting office in Orange County, California.
Ms. Iaia has over 38 years of experience in the workers’ compensation industry. Most recently Renee was the President of Phoenix Risk Management Insurance Services (Phoenix RMIS), and under her leadership Phoenix RMIS grew from $3M in 2009 to $100M in 2014.
Ms. Iaia started her career as a loss control consultant and then a marketing and underwriting professional. She has moved on to lead numerous creative and senior level opportunities, including the position of Vice President at CalComp where she was responsible for their largest office with over $120M in written premium.
Ms. Iaia has long standing ties and relationships in the Southern California business community and has been a guest speaker to a variety of brokers and employers discussing workers compensation and alternative risk programs. Ms. Iaia graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Southern California (USC).
John Travis is the Midwest Regional Vice President based in St, Louis, MO. He has been with Patriot for 15 years and in the insurance industry for over 25 years specializing in underwriting and marketing.
Mr. Travis began his career in underwriting with The Hartford Insurance Group. Before joining Patriot he was Vice President and Division Manager for Fremont Compensation’s Midwest Region where he managed a five state, full service insurance operation.
Mr. Travis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance) from the California State University. He also holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations.
Timothy A. Palmer is the Northeast Regional Vice President based in Philadelphia, PA. He joins Patriot with 13+ years of experience in the insurance industry specializing in Underwriting, Captives and Marketing.
Prior to joining Patriot, Mr. Palmer was the Vice President at McKee Risk Management in King of Prussia, PA where he led two countrywide programs focusing on Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Educational Institutions. He brings experience from Fortune 100 organizations, a private equity funded startup venture, and a successful privately held company.
Mr. Palmer holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
